HP INK REFILL INSTRUCTIONS

Cartridges should be refilled soon after becoming empty. So that the print head does not get a chance to dry out. Avoid using cartridges that you have had lying around empty for some time.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR REFILLING HP BLACK CARTRIDGES

The pictures below show the correct positioning of the cartridge in the refill tool. The first picture shows the refill tool with the larger black rubber fitted. (The smaller rubber is for colour cartridges).

Gently put the black cartridge on the rubber and carefully push the cartridge backwards so that the 2 prongs go into the cartridge and the cartridge stops at the lip on the rubber - DON’T USE FORCE. Take care not to damage the foil strip. Some cartridges don’t have holes for the prongs to go through -if this is the case, just butt it up to the 2 prongs – it will still work ok for you.)
Forth picture above shows you how to hold the cartridge when using the syringe to empty & prime the print head. Whilst holding the tool and cartridge push down on the top of the cartridge so it makes contact with the lip on the refill tool. This then make the perfect seal.

You may also need, Stanley Type Knife if you are unsure where the refill hole is. Remove the cartridge from your printer and place it on the table in front of you. If you know where the correct black fill hole is you don’t need to remove the label in the next stage and can go to the Priming Tool stage Otherwise carefully remove the label on the upper side of the cartridge with the cutter knife. The label can be reused after refilling. Now the filler opening is visible.
The red dot below the cartridge number (302xl) as shown in the last picture above marks the filling hole for the HP Black Cartridges. Now place the cartridge in the Refill tool and take a syringe (no needle) and insert it into the bottom of the Tool like the picture below Now pull out the syringe plunger so that old ink comes from the print head. Do not use this old ink and dispose of carefully.

The recommended amounts of ink for refilling Black cartridges: 62/301/302/303/304 Standard Cartridges is 3ml & XL Cartridges 6ml - 305 Standard Cartridges is 2ml and 305XL Cartridges 3.5ml Don’t overfill. Put the needle onto the syringe. Draw the recommended amount of ink into the syringe. It's best to load smaller 1-2ml amounts and fill the required number of times to make up the correct ml of ink.

Insert the filled syringe with the correct amount of ink into the cartridge refill hole. You will notice a slight resistance due to the sponge inside the chamber. Insert the needle no further than 3cm. Otherwise, you will stab into the filter screen and the ink will leak from the cartridge. Now carefully & slowly fill in the ink. If ink leaks from the filler opening, draw a little back into the syringe.

Now prime the cartridge. Take the unused syringe (no needle) and attach it to the base of the priming tool as shown above. Now pull out the syringe. This action will bring the ink to the print head and help clean the nozzles.

To test you have refilled cartridge correctly take the cartridge and dab it gently and hold down on to kitchen towel for a few seconds. If you have refilled the cartridge correctly you will see a black line on the Kitchen Towel.

All Filled and Remanufactured HP cartridges will not display ink levels. This is not a problem as you are saving lots of money. You should always keep an eye on the print quality.

When a refilled cartridge is reinstalled into the printer it is normal to receive error messages. These might be 'Low on Ink', or 'Refilled Cartridge'. You will need to skip this error by pressing 'OK' or 'Continue'. Other error messages can be caused by ink or dirt on the electrical circuit contacts of the cartridge. Carefully clean them with a damp towel.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR REFILLING COLOUR CARTRIDGES

Change the rubber in the refill tool to the smaller rubber. Don’t use force - Gently put the cartridge on the rubber and carefully push the cartridge backwards so that the 2 prongs go into the cartridge and the cartridge stops at the lip on the rubber. Takecare not to damage the foil strip. (if you have a cartridge that does not have holes for the prongs to go through just butt it up to the 2 prongs – it will still work ok for you.)

To refill the HP Colour Standard & XL cartridges you may also need, a cutter knife (Stanley Knife) if you are unsure if your cartridge is a starter Cartridge that came with the printer or a cartridge you have bought separately.

Remove the cartridge from your printer and place it on the table in front of you. If you know where the correct colour fill holes are you don’t need to remove the label in the next stage and can go to the Priming Tool stage. Otherwise carefully remove the label on the upper side of the cartridge with the cutter knife. The label can be reused after refilling. Now the filler holes are visible.

When refilling standard & XL cartridges, you must distinguish between cartridges so that you don’t overfill the cartridge. Overfilled cartridges will not work.

*If you are not sure or are refilling a starter cartridge you should always check the colour arrangement. To check you can use a cocktail stick or a needle (careful as needles are sharp) and gently insert it into the respective chamber. When you pull it out you can see which colour is inside that chamber. Don’t use the same end twice and if using a needle carefully wipe it before using it again.
